Eagle Scout
The donation made him
gleam, and he had a huge smile on his face all night long. Soon after my kids
discovered Little League, and they wanted to play ball. So one by one they
left, and when my youngest left, I left. A few years later I learned Dewey had
passed on, and since they couldn’t replace him, the troop was disbanded. Jack
had moved up state, I just couldn’t do it, and since a new scout master couldn’t be found they broke up the troop.
One of our
kids became an Eagle Scout, and went to the Air Force Academy, he wanted to be
a pilot. If he’s still in the service he may be a colonel or even a general by
now. Heck my son became a Navy lieutenant. Anyway the kids moved on to nearby troops,
and the funds went to the national BSA account. What a freaking
waste I thought as I lit up, and angrily puffed away. He was a good Scout
Master, but he just didn’t get it, the funds were for the kids, and only the
kids. They were supposed to be used on the kids, they weren’t supposed to be just earning interest. Unlike
the cubs, sadly the troop never did enjoy the troop's funds.
Anyway, I soon found
out that little league has its own nonsense too. There’s a lot of politics going on over there in that organization. I say
this because my kids played with more than one group, and I found the same bull at
both of them. Sometimes there are articles in the paper, about parents getting
busted for interfering in the games. I guess some dads see it as a throughway
to get their kids into the majors, and want every opportunity to go their
kid’s way, even though, sometimes their kid may not even have the tools to play.
