Behind Bars
I think El Jeffe realized what was going
through my mind, because he winked at me, smiled, and said:
    “Joo no, joo unarstand!”
“Whoo whoo, ha ha ha!” we shared a moment.
Then I said to Angel,
“Dude!” I says, “All he gotta do is pay the
gal, man…and we outa hea!”
“Dat’s all!” he looked at el Jeffe!”
“Jess pay the senyoreeeta, and he kan go.” Jeffe said, with
a smile.
I asked to see him, and he led us to a
cell where Juan was being held.  When he saw us, he smiled, jumped up from a miserable cot, and ran reaching out with both hands
through the bars to grab us.
     “Sheesssssssssshhhhhhhh!” He sighed,
“Thank God!”
“How ya doing Juan?” Angel asked.
“How do I get outa hea, man?” He responded
“Pay da gal, and ya outa hea dude!”
I thought he would’ve been grateful, but he
starts screaming.
“No way man, she never asked fo any money.
I thought she liked me, man. Then ina morning she
asked fo dough. Screw dat man! I don’t pay for pussy!”
    “Well down hea ya does,
and it’s da ony way ya’s getting out!”
     What a freaking bind.
I told Jeffe what was happening, and he says
“He stay in jail, no pay senyoreeeta, no get
out!” He said it loud so we could all hear it.
    I took a few steps
down the hall to a bench, sat down, leaving Juan and Angel, to talk it out. I lit up another smoke, and thought about the whole thing for a moment,
then I smiled as an idea came to me. Angel saw me smiling, and said:
     “Yo, man diz ain’t
funny!”
     “Nah man, it ain’t nathan
like dat,” I smiled.
