Suspect
“Hummmmmmm….” Its lights came on, and
suddenly all hard copies were coming in clear, and readable. It was all five by
five.
The colonel looked at the captain, and he
looked at the first shirt, then they all looked at me, as
if I had some shit to do with it. Instead of being grateful, the bastards suspected
me of wrong doing. However you look at it, they were all humiliated by their
lack of due diligence.
I don’t know what made me go, and look
back there, I just went to take a look see. To see what I
could see, and well the damned thing was unplugged. Instead of being commended,
I became a suspect. That shit really endeared me to the military, you know.
Anyway, the first shirt then says:
“Hacker I want your report Azap!”
The brass left the comm room, Hacker
looked at all of us, and shook his head.
“Look, I’m really sorry!”
Sargeant Hacker apologized to sergeant
Bundy, the incoming NCO in charge of the day shift. They
made us stay to normalize the situation, which did not happen until lunch time.
Hacker didn’t say anything to us, but we all knew Gerb had been working back there.
You learn real quick in boot camp, that if you screw it up for your crew, they will
get you back sooner or later.
As far as Hacker was concerned, Gerb must
have kicked the plug or pulled it out of the socket,
while buffing the floor back there. Anyway, that incident embarrassed a lot of
people, guys who were supposed to be brains, both officers, and enlisted men. That
asshole caused all the grief. I also paid for it, I got passed over for promotion,
because some of them believed I had something to do with it.
