Day CCCXXXVII

The Hustler

I never thought about getting involved, because there was a whole army that saw him shoot the guy in broad day light. In hind sight all that was missing was some pitch forks and torches, they were the mob after the monster. The funny thing is we never saw anything about it in the papers the next day, nor on the news that night. It was as if it never happened! Had the number of homicides in the city gone up so high they didn’t even bother reporting them? Sometimes life is a real bitch out there in the streets. You really need to pray, because you never know what this way comes, what will happen or what you’ll run into.

After that I got out of sales for a long while, and got a job on Wall Street. It was safe, though I missed the camaraderie, and haggling with merchants. But our first kid was on the way, and my wife was fearful of being a single mom.

I stayed on Wall Street for a few years but eventually I was back in the hustle again. I believe I’m a born entrepreneur, it’s in my blood, and you can take the hustler out of the street, but you can’t take the street out of him. There was a giant television craze. A NASA engineer discovered that if you put a lens in front of your television, it would magnify it a hundred fold unto your wall or a screen. It was becoming a big deal, so I jumped into it. We placed advs on the latest video mags, and created a mail order business. I remember we were at the first video show at the NY Coliseum. All the big guys were there, and I was amongst them, a small entrepreneur, a little insect amongst giants like Sony, GE, RCA, Samnsung and others.
