Bare Feet
She coughed a little,
smiled, and took another drag, and did the same. After the third, it was as if she had been smoking all her life. She
leaned back next to Sonia, and relaxed. We checked them out as they took in the
party they had been missing. Meanwhile we wondered when, and if they were going to
let anybody in on what had happened to them. Then someone noticed they were barefooted.
“Yo Morg! Wa ya shoes
babe?” Someone asked.
“Yea ah…youses look
like vamps!” Blackie smiled.
“Wit no shoes, most
indeeee dee deee deee E!” James added.
They sat there
frozen, as everyone was noticing how they looked like vamps, wearing similar
black dresses, and no shoes. Then one of the girls squealed in delight,
“Wow…dat’s real cool
babe,” and when she saw Sonia wasn’t wearing hers either, she kicked hers off
too, and started dancing to Love to love ya babe. Then Sonia and Morgana smiled, and joined her. As far as we were
concerned their ordeal, their horrible trip was over, and we relaxed.
About an hour later I
decided to get some fresh air, and went outside. It was very dark, and it looked like rain. I lit a smoke, and as I
walked around the block, I realized what a dismal nabe it was. It smelled of
burnt wood, and musk; there were many empty lots; and it seemed just as many ugly, empty looking gray buildings, with boarded up windows. Somehow I came to my senses, and realizing it wasn’t safe, I went back. But I had forgotten George’s floor, so I walked up to the third floor, and
“Bam bam bam!”
