Small World
I was selling silver
bangles on the side, and I also had a line of 14K gold earrings, and chains.
The bangles were a whole sale item, but the gold was retail or the best price I
could get. I called on all kinds of mom and pops locations: boutiques, beauty parlors, jewelry stores, and where ever I felt
I could make a sale. I called on three places that afternoon, the third was a
beauty parlor, and lo and behold you have to believe that it really is a small
world.
“Hi, da boss around?”
I asked as I pulled out my card.
The matronly looking
lady who came forward, looked at me suspiciously, and
“Que tu queires?” she
asked me in Spanish what I wanted.
“You da ownah?”
She looked at me, and
smiled
“Pues si!” Meaning of
course.
I put my briefcase on
the counter, and started my pitch. She was interested in the bangles, but told
me she could do better with the gold. She was haggling me on my prices, but we
eventually came to a deal. Then as I was finished taking her order, who but Morgana walks into the store.
“Aieee Margieee, how
are ya?” The old lady asked.
“Ahhhh ya speaks
Ingles!” I smiled.
“One has to be
careful joo know!” She smiled.
Then I looked at the object of her glee, and
when Morgana saw me, she turned pale, like off white, looking as if she had just seen a ghost.
