Unseen Wall
The tobacco stench is
so strong it gets into our hair, and skin; sticks to our clothes, furniture, drapery, and carpeting. That’s called 3rd
hand smoke, and just like 2nd hand smoke, it can hurt you, and your loved
ones. I used to sell air purifiers to haberdashers, they didn’t want it on
their merchandise. Occasionally a customer walked in with a butt, and the smoke clung to the
garments.
It just clings to our
atmosphere, and ruins our ambience. We become a part of its environment, and don’t realize how much we annoy none
smokers. After I quit I started running, well more like jogging. It improves your
stamina, and believe me smokers have no stamina. Mine was way down, I had none
at all, so I started jogging, but it was more like a fast walk.
When New York City passed a ban on smoking in
public places, smokers started hanging outside to smoke. Sometimes three or more gather
in front of a building like zombies, or more like junkies to get a fix, and
shoot the bull. When you’re just walking in and out of a building, it doesn’t bother
you much. It’s just a real quick thing, and anyway most times you just hold your
breath for that moment.
When you’re jogging
it’s a different story. Especially if you’ve just done a mile or more, hell…even a few blocks, if you’ve just started, and
you’re winded- it’s a big deal. One day when I first started jogging, I had turned the
corner, and was on my way home. As I approached my building, there were a few guys,
puffing away in front.
They created an unseen
wall of smoke, and I ran right into it. My lungs burst as I chocked on their smoke. I felt chest pains, and started to
“Haaaaak, cough,
cough cough!”
