Good bye Clark, good bye USAF
“Look bwa, Ina ya shoit, but if ya comes
back befo ya goes home, I wanna be da, dude. Ya hea me, man?”
“Bet man! Must come back before, I go
home!”
“She was cool, uh”
“Magandan dalaga bwo!”
“Yea man, ya can say dat again!”
That’s
Tagalog for a beautiful lady, and she was that, and so was her family. Sometimes it seems
time flies faster than you can smoke a butt. I wasn’t able to get another three
day pass. I wanted to see her again, and I even considered getting an extension
on my assignment. I had another eight months left on my enlistment, and they
probably would have given it to me. But I hated the military more, and just
couldn’t wait to come home to the Bronx. That month and a half just flew by,
and before I knew it, I was back on the beast to the states. They let me out six months
early for the convenience of the government. They figured that if they
shipped me to another post, by the time I got adjusted, my time would be up. So
they let me out, and I came back to the city. But that New Years Eve in Manila will
be in my heart for ever, it was the best time I ever had anywhere. I’m glad
Kunt was me, it showed him another side of the Philipines, that everyone was
not like the people, and hoes back at Clark.
I’m also sure that he talked about it, to a lot of guys back on the base.
